Meeting Notes: 7.8.2008
The turnout was good for our general meeting held lastnight at Designbox!
In attendance were representatives from story, fashion, gourmet, bazaar, yoga, health, ground, art, and a huge turnout by the graffiti crew.
Greg and Aly covered general logistics and updates which included the new map with venue highlights, a daily breakdown of the schedule of events, the master schedule, and the unveiling of the new SPARK web pages! Copies of each page were passed around to ensure correct content, and show the possibilities of what each SPARK can have represented on the site.
storySPARK: Greg Behr filled everyone in on the details. They are promoting a festival within a festival with ongoing workshops and kids activities in one ‘corner’ of Moore Square. The story folks are still in the process of scheduling performers, poets, spoken word artists to fill some time on the stage. Greg is still working on the ’storytellers’ event on Friday night and the Erotic story component on Saturday night.
fashionSPARK has already received three confirmed call backs, and has two salons on board as well. Allison met with Dave to lock in the videography, and the DRC is on board again this year. She is also focusing her efforts on prepping for the Aug 1 screening of the 2007 fashion show to be held in Moore Square on the big screen.
grafSPARK is putting out their call in the next few weeks. The Graf organizers are going to cap it a 9 or so artists this year. The panel stands are ready for production, and the first ‘prototype’ is due in a week. Matt is talking with Juan from Schizophrenic Octopus about getting the breakdancers on stage again.
yogaSPARK has received some interest from other studio’s and practitioners. Lea has built a jam packed schedule for the weekend, and now has helped coordinate folks to help with health and gourmetSPARK!
healthSPARK is in the works with a ton of great ideas. Maurice came out last night to express his goals this year. The main effort is a 3 day SPARKcon health challenge which would allow attendees to follow some regimen and report back to see if it actually helped. The goal is to empower the public with knowledge and confidence to make healthier choices to promote more energy and ultimately more creativity.
groundSPARK was able to sum up their efforts in about 5 minutes! Sarah and Rachel announced that their featured artist will be Casey Porn! They are also taking on Image Slam and are collecting names and submissions from last year to start. They have confirmed a November showing of the graffiti art from this years SPARKcon at the VAE. Sarah is also staying on top of the permit applications to ensure that all this planning is for nothing.
Ashley Christensen of Poole’s Diner dropped by to give us some insights on how gourmetSPARK could work this year. Her idea is to simply incorporate not only restaurants and chef’s but local independent growers as well. Pairing them up would better display the value of those relationships and how it ultimately benefits the community at large. It will be very cool to see how this takes shape.
Thanks to all that could make it out, and to everyone for all your hard work!
