ideaSPARK notes 06/09/09

Great meeting last night! I am very excited about our new model and think it gets even closer to the true mission of SPARKcon.  Here are my notes:

FORMAT
In order to reach out further and showcase the best of the community’s ideas, we will have ideaSPARK 09 follow a Pecha Kucha format. This is a system of each presenter showing 20 slides for 20 seconds each – resulting in a 6:40 presentation.
We plan to have 11-14 presenters as part of the kickoff of SPARKcon Thursday Sep 17
We discussed having a Keynote Speaker kick off the event- someone like Bob Young from Lulu. Kevin is going to look into the best way of contacting him.
CRITERIA
Each presentation should be community oriented projects with the last slide presenting a list of needs to take the effort further.
Each presentation should address the cornerstones of SPARKcon: Inclusivity, Independent Business, Arts, and Technology, but may also need to meet other criteria – to be decided over future discussions.
AUDIENCE
We discussed having some key contacts in the audience who could either directly assist or mentor presenters after the event. Self-Help Bank and Good Work were two such organizations mentioned. Press and municipal leaders should also be encouraged to come.
PARTICIPANTS
We would also like to reach out to key people in the community who are already pursuing community-oriented projects and encourage them to present. 1304 Bikes was mentioned as was Men at Work’s Community Center project.
RATING
Rob and David might be able to create an online voting system that will enable to public to rate their favorite abstracts of each presentation. This will help us determine the final roster and order.
VENUE
We’d like to find space for 200 or so people. Aly will ask Vintage 21 if their space will be available again. Kevin will check into Martin St Music Hall. All other ideas welcome.
We will be now adding you to the planning site so expect to see an invitation from plan.sparkcon.com. You’ll get an e-mail notice with a link to confirm your subscription. With this link you may choose which categories of SparkCon Planning you want to be informed about. Please let me know if I have missed anything.

Spark on!

Aly
